A Shield of Confidence: SPEFL-SC Self-Defense Initiative in Kupwara (Jammu and Kashmir)

In a significant stride towards empowering young girls in Kupwara, SPEFL-SC (Sports, Physical Education, Fitness, and Leisure Skills Council) organized an event at Government Girls Higher Secondary School on October 25th. The event was dedicated to distributing self-defense kits to approximately 400 girls who had undergone intensive training as part of the self-defense program led by SPEFL-SC, sponsored by Indian Railways under (CSR) initiative.

Kupwara Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ayushi Sudan was present as the chief guest. Principal of GHSS Kupwara Bashir Ahmed Shah and Lieutenant Colonel Sanjay Pawar along with dedicated trainers from the Skill Development Council are also present there. The event garnered substantial participation from the school faculty and a large contingent of enthusiastic students.

During the event, DC Ayushi Sudan personally distributed the self-defense kits among several girl students, emphasizing the importance of equipping young women with the skills and tools to protect themselves. She emphasized that self-defense training should be a fundamental right for every girl student, as it plays a vital role in fostering self-confidence and resilience. She commended the students for their fervent participation in the recent “Meri Suraksha, Meri Zimmedari” campaign, highlighting their commitment to personal safety.

Our trainers successfully trained 400 girls in self defense in just seven days of training. SPEFL-SC not only enhancing their physical abilities but also instilling in them a sense of self-confidence, which will help them throughout their life.

SPEFL-SC continues to be a guiding force for young individuals, providing them with the tools and knowledge they need to confidently navigate the world. Through such initiatives, we are contributing to creating a more secure and empowered future for the girls of Kupwara.

The virtual launch, held at the FICCI Federation House on October 12, was presided over by none other than Kiran Bedi, India’s pioneering woman IPS Officer, former Lt. Governor of Puducherry, and the visionary founder of the India Vision Foundation. At the heart of this initiative lies the aspiration to equip women with practical techniques fostering physical fitness and mental agility, thus enabling them to navigate challenging situations with confidence. The Ministry of Skill Development has greenlit a comprehensive national curriculum, to be administered by certified trainers.

Beyond Martial Arts: A Unique Curriculum Anchored by SPEFL-SC

While conventional programs often focus on martial arts for self-defense, the pioneering national curriculum, anchored by SPEFL-SC, adopts a distinctive approach. It emphasizes situational awareness, effective communication, and, ultimately, the adept use of combat techniques followed by a swift exit. This combat training is meticulously crafted based on exhaustive research into the diverse scenarios a woman might encounter, and the corresponding array of responses at her disposal.

Nationwide Impact: 20,000+ Training Sessions and Counting

Endorsed by the Indian Government, these women-centric training programs took flight in 2021. Since then, they have conducted over 20,000 training sessions, facilitated by certified trainers that have left an indelible mark across the nation. From the northern expanse of Jammu and Kashmir to the southern reaches of Karnataka, these programs have traversed through states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, impacting lives far and wide.

Govt to launch self-defence program for 1,800 women in J&K’s Kupwara

This is the second consecutive year when SPEFL-SC, a not-for-profit body linked to the skill development ministry, will conduct the self-defence programme for women in J&K.

The Sports, Physical Education, Fitness, and Leisure Skills Council (SPEFL-SC) will launch a self-defense program for women in the Kupwara district of Jammu & Kashmir from July 1 onwards, according to a release on June 26.

SPEFL-SC, which falls under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and the National Skill Development Corporation, will conduct a 12-day self-defense training exercise. The program aims to train over 1,800 young women in the region.

This is the second consecutive year that SPEFL-SC will conduct the self-defense program for women in Kupwara. Last year, the council trained 300 women in the frontier district.

“After the overwhelming response we received in September-October last year, where around 300 women attended the course conducted in multiple batches, we will launch yet another comprehensive program this July that aims to educate nearly 2,000 young women on self-defense,” said Tahsin Zahid, CEO of SPEFL-SC.

गंगानगर। उत्तर प्रदेश कौशल विकास मिशन की ओर से पांच राजकीय आईटीआई में 735 लड़कियों को तीन दिवसीय सेल्फ डिफेंस ट्रेनिंग दी गईं। अरुणोदय को राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष डॉ. अनुभूति चौहान मुख्य अतिथि रहीं। यूपीएसडीएम के निदेशक आंद्रा वामसी ने कहा कि आत्मरक्षा तकनीकों को सीखकर महिलाएं कौशल हासिल कर सकती हैं। एसपीईएफएल-एससी के सीईओ तहसीन जाहिद ने कहा कि यह कार्यक्रम सर्वश्रेष्ठ आत्मरक्षा प्रथाओं और तकनीकों पर आधारित है। महिलाओं को राजकीय आईटीआई साकेत, सरधना, हस्तिनापुर, विश्व बैंक महिला और खरखौदा के साथ-साथ कुछ यूपीएसडीएम कौशल केंद्र – अनुराग वेलफेयर यूपीएसडीएम कौशल केंद्र, दक्ष्य अकादमी और एनआईजेटी में प्रशिक्षण दिया गया।

उत्तर प्रदेश कौशल बिकास मिशन (यूपीएसडीएम) की ओर से मेरठ के पांच राजकीय आईटीआई में 735 लड़कियों को तीन दिवसीय सेल्फ डिफेंस ट्रेनिंग दी गई। राजकीय आईटीआई साकेत, सरधना, हस्तिनापुर, विश्व बैंक महिला और खरखौदा के साथ-साथ कुछ यूपोएसडीएम कौशल केंद्र – वेलफेयर यूपीएस कौशल के दर, दाक्षय अकादमी और एनआईजेटी में प्रशिक्षण दिया गया। अरुणोदय कौशल विकास मिशन के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष डॉ. अनुभूति चौहान ने मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में शिरकत करके लड़कियों की हौंसला अफजाई की और उन्हें चेन अलार्म, सेफ्टी सीट, स्प्रे और स्टिंगर से युक्त ऋणिर्भया किट वितरित की गई।

इस कार्यक्रम का उद्देश्य लड़कियों को आत्मरक्षा तकनीक और रणनीति सीखाकर उन्हें सशक्त बनाना है। बता दें कि उत्तर प्रदेश कौशल विकास मिशन (यूपीएसडीएम) ने पायलट प्रोजेक्ट के तहत राज्य के 16 शहरों में 70 हजार लड़कियों के लिए सेल्फ डिफेंस ट्रेनिंग का आयोजन किया जा रहा है।

कौशल विकास एवं उद्यमशीलता मंत्रालय के अंतर्गत कार्यरत Sports, Physical Education, Fitness and Leisure Skills Council (SPEFL-SC) की निगरानी में स्किल डेवलपमेंट ट्रेनर्स ने लड़कियों को प्रशिक्षण दिया है।

यूपीएसडीएम के निदेशक, आंद्रा बामसी ने आत्मरक्षा प्रशिक्षण के महत्व पर जोर देते हुए कहा कि आत्मरक्षा तकनीकों को सीखकर, महिलाएं खुद को बचाने और हमलावरों के खिलाफ लड़ने के लिए आत्मविश्वास और कौशल हासिल कर सकती हैं। इस पायलट प्रोजेक्ट से 10,000 बेटियों के जीवन पर सकारात्मक प्रभाव पड़ेगा। इस पायलट प्रोजेक्ट के दौरान हर जिले के आईटीआई यूपीएसडीएम के प्रशिक्षण केंद्रों में यह ट्रेनिंग दी जा रही है। एसपीईएफएल-एससी के सीईओ तहसीन जाहिद ने कहा कि यह पहल महिलाओं और लड़कियों को सशक्त बनाने के उद्देश्य से शुरू किया गया है। इस प्रशिक्षण में उन्हें तकनीक के साथ कौशल भी सिखाए जा रहे हैं।

यह कार्यक्रम दुनिया की कुछ बेहतरीन युद्ध प्रणालियों की सर्वश्रेष्ठ आत्मरक्षा प्रथाओं और तकनीकों पर आधारित है और शारीरिक एवं मानसिक फिटनेस के महत्व पर केंद्रित है।
